Private prosecution

Private prosecution

UK law affords any person the right to bring a private prosecution.  In a climate of increasing cuts to funding for UK law enforcement, ensuring redress for those who have been the victim of any crime, including economic or cyber-crime, is less certain than ever before.  Bringing a private prosecution is increasingly regarded as a potentially more cost and time-efficient remedy where a crime has been committed. The Crown Prosecution Service also retains the right to take over a private prosecution once commenced.

At Sherrards, we combine seasoned criminal litigation experience with access to a well-resourced civil litigation department. External specialists in asset-tracing and investigation gained from UK policing can be brought in if required. We also have extensive relationships with a network of overseas lawyers to ensure that cross-border investigations can be pursued effectively.
