As Head of Litigation & International Services, I recently spoke at a Law Society IBA master class alongside Stephen Denyer, head of international and city at the Law Society and Elizabeth Fehnrich of UK Trade & Investment.
The International Bar Association is the leading global association for lawyers. I gave my views on how firms can go about getting the most from participation in the IBA’s activities, including its international conference in Tokyo which featured a range of topics ranging from upholding human rights, to the rule of law, to connecting lawyers and law firms from all over the world (including of course my own firm Sherrards Solicitors)!
The Law Society is very active internationally in leading a charge to help promote the UK’s position as a leading exporter of legal services – a US$25 billion success story which I’m proud to say Sherrards plays its part in (Law Society figures for 2011).
Elizabeth Fehnrich, our valued contact at the UKTI, explained the role fulfilled by the British Government in helping firms to export their services by enabling them to plug into the international scene through involvement in trade missions to the IBA’s annual conference. This has all been hugely beneficial to our firm.
In a first for the Law Society’s International Division, a podcast of the seminar is available for download to an MP3 player. Lawyers can claim one hour of CPD by tuning in! Follow the link http://international.lawsociety.org.uk/node/14156
