Another 5,000 calories in the tank- can we get £5,000 in the bank?

Another quick report from “tent city” in Penrith where we arrived yesterday after a 104 mile ride from Haydock.  This was another very tough day on the bike – 700 sweaty, but determined cyclists of all shapes and sizes (and levels of fitness!) steadily ascended world famous Shap Climb before passing the North Lakes and Morecambe Bay, before arriving in Penrith.

We’ll be in Scotland by the time you read this – this really is music to our ears. However, it’s hard to believe we will spend a further 3 days tackling some seriously big hills across Scotland. All for a good cause however!  I’m delighted to report that my initial target of £2,500 for Rennie Grove Hospice Care has already been smashed, and I’m now targeting £5,000 – thank you for your support!  I hear that the riders and corporate sponsors together have raised just short of £1,000,000 already.

I’m not sure where all this energy is coming from – before last week, I had only ever cycled 100 miles in a day twice, so to do this nine days in succession just shows the spirit of the Alliott Group international team which has now grown to three, and of course the power of teamwork. We are all pushing ourselves further than we ever thought we could go – it just shows that there is always more in us that we think!

My energy levels are also probably also something to do with the 5,000 calories I am consuming each day – we eat huge breakfasts and dinners, and have nuts and crisps at two feed stations along the way.

Tonight we’ll be in Hamilton – I have a feeling I may need an extra bag of Monster Munch to get me up those hills to Fort William tomorrow!
