Football match raises £1000 for local charity

We were delighted to have two of our solicitors selected as  part of a ‘dream team’ of local professionals to take on Clydesdale Bank’s local soccer talent in a charity match organised by the bank to raise money for Watford’s Peace Hospice.

The team of St Albans professionals line up ahead of the big match

Sherrards Solicitors’ managing partner Alasdair McMillin’s tactical nous was dispensed from the sidelines in his self-styled ‘Ron Manager’ role, but couldn’t save his team, which also included commercial solicitor Kiall Bagnell, from crashing to defeat, eventually losing 5-3 to the bank’s fitter and more youthful team. Given that two of the goals conceded were own goals, and the bank’s team included an extremely competent goalkeeper, it was a plucky display from this rapidly assembled team of local professionals.

The game, held at St Albans FC’s Clarence Park ground and organised by Cyldesdale Bank as part of their Business Week, raised £1000 for the hospice.  Furthermore, the event was preceded by a game between two local U12 local youth teams whose young team members were able to enjoy their first experience of playing on a full-size pitch.

“It was a pleasure to be part of such a great evening. Our association with Clydesdale Bank in St Albans has always been very strong and it was rewarding to help the bank raise funds for the Peace Hospice,” comments Alasdair McMillin.

High octane action from the game which was played in good spirits, if not always great weather conditions!
