About the role
This commercial property Solicitor role is a particularly key appointment within our business. The Commercial Property department, in common with most other firms, has seen a substantial increase in business over the last 12 months. Unlike some other firms, however, the influx of work is such as to ensure a stable and consistent workflow which will enable us to weather any further storms to come.
This particular role is as an assistant to the Head of Commercial Property, Terry Fendt. Terry is a hugely respected lawyer in the Commercial Property world.
As Terry’s assistant, the person who fills this role will have unparalleled training and support from one of the leading players in the field.
The role has been created following an increase in work from a particular client who is significantly expanding their portfolio. The person appointed to this role will be one of two main points of contact for this client, and will be required to provide them with first class service while maintaining an excellent client relationship.
The nature of the client’s business is that they are building a commercial portfolio, partly through acquisitions of a number of residential properties. The role will, therefore, involve an amount of residential conveyancing work but within the context of a wider commercial objective.
This is a unique opportunity to build a strong relationship with a key client of the Firm, and become the “go to” person in the Sherrards St.Albans office for that client, together with other key clients of the Firm.
What we are looking for
You are likely to be around 3 to 6 years PQE. However, previous experience as a paralegal, for example, may be taken into account.
We want someone who is prepared to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in and be proactive rather than reactive. Although the successful candidate will get guidance and support from Terry where necessary, we need somebody who will take initiative rather than waiting for direction. Flexibility is absolutely vital.
The role is based in St Albans and the successful candidate must be within reasonable travel distance of St Albans, and prepared to commit to a career there.
Key technical requirements
1. CQS Compliant Residential Property in sales including establishing standard Estate documents for unit sales and purchases in re-financing
2. Commercial Property – negotiating and settling Leases on behalf of tenants; on the telephone and/or meetings, Agreement for Lease; Planning Conditionality; Leases; Underleases; Licences to Assign/Alter and Underlet; Rent Deposits.
